William Mahfoud, more widely recognized as Rise 1969, is a Lebanese-British artist with a deep-rooted connection to Beirut. Over the past 15 years, he has been an integral part of the local club scene, contributing his craftful touch to the city’s nightlife.
In addition to his music career, Rise 1969 is a respected sound engineer, known for his work in shaping the sounds of many emerging Lebanese artists. He has nurtured associations with esteemed record labels, including Redbooth, Moodmusic Records, Thawra Records, and Qeone, reflecting his adaptability and innovative approach to electronic music.
Rise 1969’s performances have claimed the space of renowned clubbing institutions in Beirut and beyond, most notably Electrowerks, Gallery, Beat London, The Ministry of Sound, The Ballroom Blitz, Frequent Defect, and The Grand Factory, where he has consistently challenged audiences with his diverse sound palette.
His musical style transcends genres, ranging from the heavy rhythms of techno and UK bass to the mellower, groovier rhythms of house and downtempo.
Beyond his work as an artist, Rise 1969 plays a significant role in mentoring the next generation of electronic music artists through workshops and tutoring. William is currently Head of Audio at Shams TV in Erbil, expanding on his career in audio production, sound design and music composition, while also hosting events (art exhibitions, installations, and live music) through his events brand Séòl.
